The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own T20 league during the 2025-26 season, joining a growing number of state associations venturing into this format.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the GCA, confirmed the decision to Cricbuzz, noting that the association is still working out the details. This includes finding a suitable window in the cricketing calendar for the tournament and finalizing the number of participating teams.
These domestic T20 leagues have become important scouting grounds for IPL franchises. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra provide local players with a platform to showcase their talent and potentially earn a spot in the Indian Premier League. Many of these leagues are held in June and July, after the IPL season concludes in May.
