Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, stands on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone in his burgeoning Test career. He is just 97 runs short of becoming the quickest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 Test runs, potentially eclipsing a record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar for nearly half a century. As India prepares to face England in the second Test at Edgbaston starting July 2nd, all eyes will be on Jaiswal.

Jaiswal's consistency has provided a major lift for India during a period of transition. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley demonstrated his immense talent, although it wasn't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting England a challenging target of 371, India was undone by impressive batting performances from Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, giving England a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.
Jaiswal's individual form remains a beacon of hope for India as they look to rebound at Edgbaston. In just 20 Tests, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who reached the milestone in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar went on to become the first player to surpass 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow Gavaskar in this prestigious list, having reached 2,000 runs in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant stroke play and composed demeanor, Jaiswal has the opportunity to not only join these legends but also surpass them, providing India with a significant boost in a must-win Test match.
